Top Tips for a Stress-Free Wedding Day with Your Dog
If your furry best friend is part of the family (and let’s face it, they totally are), there’s no way you’re getting married without them by your side! Having your dog at your wedding is a beautiful way to make your big day feel even more personal, but let’s be honest... it’s not without its challenges. From tail-wagging excitement to the occasional zoomie mid-ceremony, here are my top tips to make sure your wedding day with your dog is as stress-free (and fun!) as possible.
1. Choose a Dog-Friendly Venue
First things first – check your venue is happy to welcome dogs. Some venues are super accommodating (like Wennington Hall, hint hint!) and will even suggest ways to include your pooch in your big day. Others may have specific rules about where your dog can go, so always double-check the details to avoid any last-minute surprises. Here’s a blog full of amazing Dog Friendly Wedding Venues in Lancashire.
2. Bring in a Doggy Chaperone
Your wedding day is busy, and as much as you’ll want to keep an eye on your pup, you’ll have a million other things to think about. Hiring a professional dog chaperone or asking a trusted friend to be your dog’s designated plus one will take the pressure off. They can handle walks, water breaks, and keep your pup calm so you can focus on enjoying your day.

3. Practise Makes Pawfect
If your dog is playing a big role (like ring bearer, flower pup, or walking you down the aisle), get plenty of practice in beforehand. Rehearse their role a few times so they know what’s expected – and don’t forget the treats for motivation!
4. Don’t Forget the Essentials
Just like packing your overnight bag, your dog will need a few essentials too. Think:
Water bowl and fresh water
Treats (because good dogs deserve rewards!)
A lead or harness
Dog-friendly wipes for muddy paws
A favourite toy or blanket to help them settle
5. Dress for Comfort (and Cuteness!)
While the idea of your dog in a bowtie or floral collar is adorable (and I fully support it!), make sure whatever they’re wearing is comfortable. Avoid anything too restrictive or fussy – you want them to enjoy the day just as much as you!
6. Plan for Breaks
Even the most social dogs can get overwhelmed with all the people, music, and excitement. Creating a quiet space where they can relax will help them recharge. Whether it’s a quiet corner with their blanket or a stroll outside with their chaperone, giving your dog some downtime is key.
7. Capture the Moments
Let your photographer know that your dog will be there, and plan a few key photo moments with them. Whether they’re posing with the bridal party, sitting proudly by your side, or running through the grounds with their tongue hanging out, those photos will be priceless.
8. Be Realistic
As much as we love our dogs, they can be unpredictable – and that’s okay! If your pup refuses to walk down the aisle or decides to bark at your vows, just embrace it. These are the moments that make your wedding uniquely yours – and they’ll make the best stories later!
Having your dog at your wedding is such a special touch, and with a little planning, it can be a stress- free and memorable experience for everyone. So embrace the chaos, pack the treats, and let your
pup join in the party – after all, they’re family too!
If you’re looking for a wedding photographer who’s as obsessed with dogs as you are, give me a shout – I’d love to hear about your plans (and your pooch!).
